Thai Yoga Massage

Thai Yoga Massage is a unique and powerful massage therapy, combining acupressure, gentle stretching and applied yoga – it is a bit like having yoga done to you.

Thai Yoga Massage has been used to heal people for more than 2,500 years.

The practice of Thai Yoga Massage is based on the essential principles of Thai Medicine; in that energy flows through our bodies through lines of energy and when one or more of the energy lines are blocked, we suffer from aches, pain, illness and disease.

Thai Yoga Massage concentrates on the 10 most important energy lines (the ten sen) to release any blocked energy. Beginning at the feet and ending at the head, you’ll gradually feel your body open up as your energy flows through your body again – restoring health, harmony and balance.

Other benefits include greater flexibility in the joints, enhanced blood circulation, better alignment of the body, improved posture and additional stimulation of the internal organs, which helps them to function optimally.  Thai Yoga Massage also gives the receiver a feeling of relaxation and tranquillity that is invaluable for today’s stressful lifestyle.

Thai Yoga Massage can help treat many ailments.

It is extremely effective in treating frozen shoulder, asthma, back pain and many other conditions.

It can also help support the body through menopause. As a sufferer of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, I have also found it very helpful for supporting my energy levels.

What to expect

The massage itself is a therapeutic combination of soft tissue manipulation, acupressure, gentle stretching and applied yoga, with the focus on balancing the body’s energy.

Thai Yoga Massage is practiced on a futon cushion on the floor, which is very grounding.  There will be blankets and cushions to provide warmth and comfort.

You are not required to remove your clothing, although it is important to wear loose comfortable clothing which will allow your body to be moved freely.

Thai Yoga Massage starts at the feet and moves up your body, finishing at the head with a relaxing face massage.

What are the effects of Thai Yoga Massage?

There are many benefits to be gained from a Thai Yoga Massage.  As a practitioner, I am mainly concerned with balancing the energy systems of the body and therefore the massage can have profound effects on the you, the receiver.  After receiving a massage, it usually takes four or five days for this energy re-balancing to be complete.  This means that you’ll often continue to experience the beneficial effects for some time after the massage, not just during the treatment.

There are several reactions that you can expect after receiving a massage.  The two most common initial feelings are extreme tiredness, which is a sign that old and negative energy is leaving the body, and a feeling of having lots of energy, which indicates that new energy is flowing into the body.

Whatever your first reaction, you can expect that your energy will be balanced after a few days.  This means that even if you felt very tired immediately afterwards, once that feeling passes you will usually be conscious of having more energy.
